J.Crew Return Policy: Everything You Need to Know

J.Crew accepts returns within 30 days for a refund, or 60 days for store credit. Here's how the policy works, what's final sale, and how J.Crew Factory differs.

J.Crew's return policy is a two-tier system: 30 days for a cash refund, 60 days for store credit. Here's what that means in practice and where the exceptions are.

Standard policy

  • 30 days from purchase for a full refund to original payment method
  • 60 days from purchase for exchange or store credit
  • Items must be unworn, unwashed, in original condition with tags attached
  • Original receipt or order confirmation required

The two-tier system is a deliberate nudge to keep you buying from J.Crew rather than refunding you — if you're past 30 days but within 60, you can still get value back, just not cash. Know which option you want before walking in or initiating a mail return.

Final sale

Final sale items at J.Crew are non-returnable. Final sale is common during:

  • End-of-season clearance
  • Friends & Family events
  • Specific deep-discount promotions

The designation is clearly marked on the product page and receipt. During J.Crew's larger sales, a meaningful portion of inventory is final sale — read carefully at checkout.

J.Crew Factory

J.Crew Factory is a separate brand with its own return policy:

  • 30-day return window for a full refund
  • Factory items cannot be returned to J.Crew full-price stores
  • J.Crew full-price items cannot be returned to Factory stores

Factory and full-price J.Crew are distinct — keep your receipts organized so you know which is which.

How to return in-store

Bring the item with tags and receipt to any J.Crew location (not Factory for full-price items). Refunds process to the original payment method. If you're past 30 days but within 60, they'll issue store credit.

Note: J.Crew and Madewell split their retail operations after J.Crew's reorganization — Madewell and J.Crew stores are separate. You cannot return J.Crew items at Madewell.

How to return by mail

  1. Log into jcrew.com and navigate to your orders
  2. Initiate the return and select your items
  3. Print the prepaid return label (a $7.50 fee is deducted from your refund)
  4. Pack and ship; refunds process within 5–7 business days

In-store returns are free.

No receipt

If your purchase is tied to your J.Crew account, associates can look it up. Without any documentation, returns become store credit at the current selling price.

The honest read

J.Crew's policy is reasonable. The 30/60-day two-tier is common in retail. The thing to watch is the separation between J.Crew and J.Crew Factory — they operate independently, and returning to the wrong store type will be declined.

J.Crew resale

J.Crew holds moderate resale value. Their cashmere, collection pieces, and classic outerwear (like their iconic wool coats) sell reasonably on Poshmark and ThredUp. Basics sell for less. The brand is well-known enough that buyers exist, but it's not a premium resale market.

If you have J.Crew pieces you're not wearing and you're past the return window, Cove can show you what they'd actually fetch on the secondary market.
